Anyone can go to my delicious account and see who is under the tags "Jewelry" and "design"

Maybe instructors should just start sending in images of their student's work to the editor. It all about new work. I find more "new" jewelers/designers/metalworkers everywhere but metalsmith magazine. The student slide is always nice, but I think Metalsmith could feature more student/recent grad/younger artists work. It's my understanding that it starts with a proposal to the editor.

BTW who would you like to see in the magazine?michelle pajak-reynoldshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08562013052426625885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5480289266541865242.post-60240957359597076812008-09-21T07:18:00.000-07:002008-09-21T07:18:00.000-07:00wait you can edit your comments? I hate that I can't go back and edit.Nice....Sorry. I hate that I can't go back and edit.

Nice. I am interested to see what happens. Its about time I got involved. I have tried to stay out of it on my blog but every time I read your postings it makes me want to rant about the issues. I usually type this long comment and then at the end I just chicken out. I just don't want to come off sounding like a grumpy old man.

MY real complaint is seeing the same old people published in metalsmith magazine being pushed to the front, getting awards, nominated for positions and getting into shows. There is soooooo much AWESOME new work out there by young metal workers! Its insane! I want to see that stuff. Not to re-hash things but I am tired of street signs and 3D prints. I want to see something new.

The magazine/orginization is changing now. As you point out its just not changing fast enough.

On another note, I liked this years exhibition in print. I love going to the SNAG conference. I love being invited to do SNAG related things. I only see small problems that can be easily fixed. But hey maybe I am too optimistic. Thanks for the comments.arthur hashhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04455203776969059266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5480289266541865242.post-77540776876660948312008-09-19T23:17:00.000-07:002008-09-19T23:17:00.000-07:00Arthur, thanks for this interesting post. I agree ...Arthur, thanks for this interesting post. I agree with so much of what you said. I wouldn't be the person I am today without my education. I do love SNAG, and if I didn't think it was a great organization I wouldn't bother posting about its goings on. But if we want it to improve, evolve, or even overhaul then I think it is important to put our opinions out there publicly for all to see.

To just accept it as it is warts and all is to not really care about making it better. In governmental politics talking about change might just be rhetoric, but in the tiny world of studio jewelry and metalsmithing change is not rhetoric because in a member run organization of 3,000 change, evolution, and revolution is certainly possible. I see it even as necessary for the organization to remain viable and for it to be around for future generations. I put my money where my mouth is and donated this year as well, SNAG MUST continue.

In a field of independent thinkers no one can ever agree on anything I think, but accepting the status quo is also something not within my constitution.

I am glad to see you coming out with the real stuff.

Best,
-GabrielAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02369410143042070219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5480289266541865242.post-60783770109127968792008-09-19T22:49:00.000-07:002008-09-19T22:49:00.000-07:00Amen!
