sink insert

I made a new sink insert to go in the basic metals room sink. The old one was falling apart. We use this thing to wet polish metal. It is elevated to prevent pumice from going directly in our traps when the water is running. It is hard to tell in the photo but there are these bins under this contraption that catch everything. I gave this one a LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) top. Hopefully it will last a bit longer than the old one. The old one was at least five years old so.......fingers crossed

all kinds of crazy stuff!

Oh man..... So it has been a long time since I posted.  I have been just completely swamped with a million and one things and adding to the blog is the last thing on my mind.   Here is what I have been doing for the last seven weeks or so.

1. Serving on the OPC (Online Presence Committee) helping launch the new SNAG website in time for the SNAG conference in Phoenix
2. Working at SUNY.  Re-upping the metals studio.
3. Finishing up pieces and sending them out for shows (enamel inlay badges, photos below)
4. Working in the Digi Fab Lab over the summer (installing equipment, buying and stocking material)
5. Getting ready to teach a workshop at Arrowmont (Green studio practices)
6. Getting ready to go to Oslo (visiting artist)
7. Visiting my Mom back home after her knee surgery
8.  Going to dinner parties, Having dinner parties, eating dinner.  Yelling at the cats.
9. Moving, Unpacking, and settling in to our new place in Rifton.  (being closer to Kingston)
10. Buying a new kiln. (have yet to fire it up)
11. Fixing my computer (dropped in a new solid state hard drive)
12. Practicing enameling for my enameling class next semester (so many things I have not done in so long  cloisonne, plique-a-jour, champleve etc)
13. working on a commemorative coin for the village of New Paltz (I will post about this later)
etc etc etc etc

I know this seems lazy but here are a boatload of photos of all that stufff

JOYA

big ups to the peeps

I just sent off a big old box of work to the Sienna Gallery for SOFA NY.   I have a few more pieces to finish for some wholesale orders from ACC Baltimore and then.... maybe then Liz and I can take our honeymoon.    VACATION PLEASE!

I am trying to shut down my making for a moment and concentrate on some other ventures such as Craftees, moving, helping other metals folks when I can and of course working on the SUNY metals studio and digital lab. I am excited about this summer and the many plans I have for even more improvements that need to be made to the metals studio as well as the arrival of the incoming grads. I am also excited for all of the outgoing grads. I always love seeing their thesis shows. Congrats in advance to all of you.  You have all worked very hard to get to where you are.

It always surprises me seeing the work coming out of this program. I guess I should expect that level of sophistication out of New Paltz by now. I do feel as if I am in the epicenter of something great sometimes.  I am in a lot of ways jealous and wish I could go back to school and have the luxury to make different work or even have an opportunity to be exposed to what they are exposed to.  So many exciting things to do.  So many exciting things to make.  I guess I wouldn't be where I am if I had not traveled the path I did.  What an exciting part of my life that was.  I will never forget the bonds I made with other artists or the pieces I toiled over when I was in the thick of it.  I am also grateful for all of the help I received along the way.  I know some people had to be incredibly patient with me or even tolerate my craziness.  Thank you all.
So many exciting things on the horizon for so many talented people.  There are so many great opportunities for so many great people.  I wish the best of luck to you all.

more shirts!!

The shirts have arrived! In the next couple of days I will ship off the first order! I am soooooo stoked. They came out great. There was only one print error (that is one shirt out of 25) .  Not too shabby.  Thank you to all of you who ordered. I really couldn't be happier. The small fits perfectly.  Liz loves them (they, of course have to pass the Liz test first). I already have two more designs in the works. This time on regular cotton shirts and possibly hoodies (even though they are out of season). After much debate I have decided to not make aprons. I just don't think I could make them fast enough for the high demand. I also can not decide for the life of me which design to make. I have decided to sell the patterned canvas cloth to make your own apron or use it to make your own what-ever. I am so excited about all of this. There is a link in the upper right hand corner of the blog to order.  Check back soon to the store for new products! Just FYI....the new shirts and material will be a lot cheaper due to the use of a more traditional printing process and don't worry, the all over printed shirts will still be available. Thanks again -Arthur and Liz

more bling

Gold brooch

It doesn't ever stop. I am just recovering from ACC Baltimore, launching my t-shirt store and now I am working on a couple of pieces for SOFA New York. I have been forever trying to make a high-end line of work. Everyone asks "Do you have this in gold?" It has been a very long time since I have worked with gold. Every time I say the same thing - "I think I am in love". I cast, milled and fabricated the brooch back from 14k that I had from another project. This is the first time I have completely laser engraved the front and back of the brooch. Anyhoo go by and see the Sienna Gallery at the Park Avenue Armory on APRIL 20-23

launched!

Just launched my store for the shirts that I designed.

This is a polyester American apparel shirt. It is a tad thin as American apparel shirts tend to be. Do not let that fool you this is still a great shirt. It comes in multiple sizes and colors. All profits go towards making more shirts :) Soon, I hope to have more made for every craft area so check back soon. Please allow two - four weeks for printing and delivery. These are single sided full bleed shirts so there may be some irregularities near the armpits. These are all custom one off prints so all sales are final.

Orders are produced using 4.5 oz WHITE American Apparel t-shirts. Our soft shirt sublimation printing will not crack, peel or flake off. Sublimated shirts leave a permanent, vivid image with a soft-to-the-hand feel. American Apparel tees are made with high-quality, 100% spun polyester and deliver the look and feel of organic cotton with the wickability of poly-performance fibers; providing a great fit with a soft feel.

Only unisex sizing right now. Sorry ladies. I will be ordering some smalls and I will have the wife try them on and get an expert opinion. I will post the results here soon
